BEGA Garnbirringu is a not-for-profit organization providing sustainable, culturally appropriate, and holistic health services for Aboriginal people in the Goldfields. Established in the early 1980s, it has expanded to include Clinical Services, Social Support, Social & Emotional Wellbeing, and Training.
ACorp were awarded the project after a competitive tender process. The main challenge was ensuring the health facility remained operational during refurbishment. Working closely with the client, the project shifted from a two-stage plan to a five-stage approach. This allowed the clinic to relocate operations while maintaining critical community services.
With external funding involved, accurate financial reporting was crucial. ACorp’s reporting model streamlined the documentation, supporting effective and efficient fund acquittal.
Refurbishment challenges included removing old deteriorated wet area screeds and reinstating compromised fire walls. Health care facilities are complex in nature and keeping it operational whilst undertaking works makes the process more complex and more critical. New dental facilities were installed, including X-ray rooms and a new dental chair (including all detailed specific services that came with that), while keeping the clinic operational.
The pharmacy was temporarily relocated to allow for new pharmacy and reception areas. ACorp worked closely with the client to maintain strict protocols and ensure continuity of medical services.
The project was impacted by evolving COVID-19 restrictions within the healthcare industry, and changing construction elements, requiring design adjustments for patient-facing areas. Reception counters were redesigned to align with new health regulations.
ACorp is proud of the successful delivery of this project, maintaining strong communication and collaboration with the client and subcontractors.
