ACorp Construction was awarded the construction contract for the Perth Core Library Filed Logistic Store, Hardware Roof and Site Works.
The project was divided into two distinct separable portions:
Separable Portion 1 involved works on the Field Logistics Store, which included the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a new roof. Additionally, a canopy was built to provide extra storage space. New structural steel and purlins were installed to support the roof cladding, while the roof plumbing was directed into a newly installed soakwell.
Separable Portion 2 focused on the main Core Library. This portion involved replacing the roof sheeting and constructing a core-filled blockwork retaining wall. The retaining wall was necessary to prevent invasive tree roots from entering the storage area of the Core Library. Several challenges arose during this phase, particularly due to underground services near the proposed wall. After extensive collaboration with the architect and several revisions, a viable solution was reached.
ACorp worked closely with the Town of Victory Park Council and their arborist representative during the construction of the retaining wall. This was crucial because we were adamant should not be cut down for environmental reasons. After many discussions between the council and their independent arborist, an agreed-upon design allowed for the retaining wall to be installed without damaging the trees.
Another significant challenge was ensuring the Core Library remained fully operational throughout the project. ACorp maintained continuous communication with the library management, with careful planning and coordination taking place several weeks in advance to ensure the safety of their personnel and minimal disruption to their processes.
The project was successfully completed to a high standard on time and within budget, despite the design challenges and the working environment.
